Britain is becoming a major player in the cruise industry

Britain is becoming a major player in the cruise industry, with over half a million visitors last year and is expected to continue growing for 2011.

The UK is increasing in popularity within the cruise sector and saw over 116 ships calling at British ports last year. The size of our small British island is appealing to visitors as our cultural landmarks and heritage sites are only a short distance from many ports, allowing them to experience the best Britain has to offer.

There are also plans to open a new cruise terminal in Greenwich, which should be open in time for the 2012 Olympic Games. The terminal will be able to hold ships carrying up to 1500 passengers and hopes to create an accessible tourist destination on the River Thames.
