The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) ‘Competitiveness Report 2011’ shows that after the recent difficult worldwide economic downturn the Travel & Tourism (T&T) Industry sector is starting to make a recovery. It states that travel and tourism is widely recognised as a critical sector worldwide and one that provides significant potential for economic growth. A growing national T&T sector contributes to employment, raises national income, and can improve a country’s balance of payments.
The Report includes a ‘Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index’ that measures the factors and policies that make it attractive to develop the T&T sector in 139 industrialised and emerging economies.
