Always check the validity of the passports of ALL the people travelling in your party well before you leave. It is wise to ensure that they all have at least six months left to run on their passport on the day you arrive at your destination as many countries require the passport to be valid for at least six months as a condition of entry.
Passport renewals by the Identity & Passport Service (IPS) ‘Standard Service’ normally take three weeks but this is not guaranteed and it is wise to allow at least six weeks for your application to be processed if at all possible.
The Post Office offer a ‘Check & Send’ service where they will check that you have completed the application form correctly and have included all the supporting documents and the correct fee and then they will forward all the relevant paperwork plus your payment directly and securely to the IPS by Royal Mail Special Delivery.
The IPS also offers a ‘One-Week Fast Track Service’ at an extra cost. For a further additional fee, they also offer a ‘One-day Premium Service’. Both these services are ‘by appointment only’ meaning that you will need to first make an appointment and then attend in person at a Regional Passport Office. Further details can be found on the IPS website or by telephoning their Adviceline on: 0300 222 0000.
