There are a few things that can be done to reduce the cost of hiring a car whilst on holiday. First of all, book ahead. In recent years car hire companies have reduced the size of their fleet due to the recession and as vehicles become booked, the remaining vehicles are likely to increase in price.
Secondly, we are lucky in the UK to have price comparison sites such as Travel-supermarket which allow direct comparisons to be made quickly and easily. So shop around.
Thirdly, stay away from insurance offered by hire car companies and use an independent broker instead. Good offerings can be seen from firms such as insure4excess.com. Fourthly, follow the guidelines on whether to leave the car empty or full when it is returned. If you leave it half full when it should have been returned full, the price that you will be charged for the fuel would make Welcome Break services blush.
